Shaping the future by redefining the standard

We follow the child’s natural curiosity to foster a learning environment that is responsive and engaging.
We are not bound by the Ontario Curriculum but use it as a guide. How and what the children learn is dependent on what is developmentally appropriate and individualized.
Our children get to take a front seat in their learning journey and encouraged to take risks, explore new concepts and develop their passions.

Here are the core components to a reggio-inspired learning environment.
The Environment as the Third Teacher
Parents as Partners
Teachers as Researchers and Guides
Children are able to explore, ask questions, be curious and develop their passions in-depth. The opportunities for learning are endless, and teachers provide provocations to evoke and extend the children’s learning.
-
The Science of Reading is embedded into our daily practice of learning. We know the value of explicit and systematic instruction in literacy so all children can have instruction that is based on best research practices.
Our approach is multi-sensory, informed by Orton-Gillingham. We ensure that all children have the foundational word reading skills they need to be confident learners.
-
We understand the importance of children being outdoors in all seasons. We experience the outdoors and dress appropriately so our bodies can move, explore and build resiliency to different conditions.
-
We use co-regulation strategies and support your child’s well-being through connection. We know separation can be hard and ensure that children are given the comfort and reassurance that they need.
Parents are welcomed into the space and when needed, children can transition into the space at a pace that aligns with each families needs.
“If children feel safe, they can take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, learn to trust, share their feelings, and grow.”

Attachment based, we use co-regulation strategies and support your child’s well-being through connection
We are focused on research based practices for literacy instruction, we believe that every child has a right to learn to read and write
We know the world is ever changing, but our approach to education will always align with our core values and how children learn best
We believe in the power of community, teachers are guides and don’t hold all the knowledge. We bring in guides and experts in various fields (e.g., social-emotional well-being, the arts, athletics) to supplement our daily programming
-
Community exploration will be ongoing each week and may include a combination of visiting a local ravine, park, grocery store, post office, library, and/ or community centre.
Field trips will be planned based on the interest of the children and will vary each year.
We will partner with resources within the community to extend the children’s learning and development (e.g., emotional intelligence, self-awareness, problem solving, mindfulness). These events will take place at Wrenport Academy and occur on a regular basis.
